Inspirational Voices of Praise (IVOP), the University of Mount
Union’s gospel choir, will present its annual Advent Concert at 6 p.m.
on Saturday, December 1 in the Dewald Chapel located on the University
of Mount Union Campus.
The repertoire will focus on Negro spirituals and Christmas music.
This concert is free and open to the public; all are invited and
welcome.
Special guest for the event will be Timothy W. McLeod, a Mount Union
alum and Teachers College, Columbia graduate. McLeod is a tenor who
specializes in the singing of Negro Spirituals. While teaching in the
San Francisco Unified School District and later serving as
administrative analyst for the San Francisco Department of Public
Health, McLeod regularly performed as an oratorio soloist throughout the
Bay Area. He also served as Minister of Music at the Mission United
Presbyterian Church and at Elmhurst United Methodist Church. Since
returning to Alliance, McLeod has appeared as tenor soloist in a
performance of Messiah with Apollo’s Fire and in the Mount Union Alliance Chorale’s presentation of Theodore Dubois’ Seven last Words of Christ.
Until recently, Tim was soloist at First Church, Christ Scientist,
Canton and a performing member of the MacDowell Music Club of Canton.
Attendees who are able are asked to bring a canned/non-perishable
food item for the Alliance City Food Pantry. For more information,
contact Barbara Lyons at (330) 823-2397.
